3 sticks butter
2½ cups sugar
6 eggs
3 cups flour, sifted and divided
1½ teaspoons baking powder, divided
1 teaspoon salt, divided
2 cups whole milk, divided
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 large tub chocolate frosting
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease three 9-inch cake pans and dust with flour. Set aside. In large mixing bowl, cream butter. Add sugar, mix well. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Add 1½ cups flour with half of baking powder and half of salt with 1 cup of milk; mix well. Add remaining flour, salt, and baking powder with remainder of milk; mix well. Add lemon juice and vanilla and blend 3 minutes. Pour batter into cake pans and cook 30 to 40 minutes, until cake tests done. Let stand on counter for 5 minutes.
